moonlight cafe
Although off the beaten track, Cafe Moonlight has a lot to offer. A 15 minute stroll from the heart of Seminyak Sqaure, Cafe Moonlight is a great place to check out and enjoy a good wholesome brekky. Cafe Moonlight is a surprisingly busy place early morning given the offbeat location in the back blocks between Seminyak and Kerobokan, so it’s worth making a reservation.
If you are after a casual dining spot, this is the place to be. Popular amongst the locals and tourists alike, Cafe Moonlight has a lot to offer with their healthy food options, a small gift section with unique pieces, a small grocery offering local produce and health food supplies.
Open from 7:30am till 11:00pm you can sit out front under the veranda, indoors or upstairs and enjoy the view overlooking Seminyak whilst enjoying a drink or meal. With a huge Western and Indonesian menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner) there is something to please the most fussiest of eaters and you can juice it up with a great list of juices and smoothies, the usual hot and cold drinks and alcoholic beverages too. Cafe Moonlight offers all day breakfast too.
We enjoyed freshly squeezed orange and watermelon juices, a Banana Lassi, Diet Support and a round of coffees to kick start our day.
The set breakfast meals were great value served with complimentary salad or seasonal fruit platter, fresh fruit juice and coffee or tea. The Muesli with Fruit was our healthy breakfast choice to offset the Apple Caramel and Blueberry & Raspberry Pancakes we ordered! There was ample muesli with a variety of grains, seeds, nuts and rolled oats and the fruit was fresh and not day old cut up fruit. More of the sweet thick caramel sauce and caramelised apple would’ve helped to distract from the lack of sweetness in the perfectly round fluffy pancakes.
The best sandwiches start with great bread and we weren’t disappointed with our Bagel (smoked salmon and cream cheese), Panini with smoked ham and cream cheese and Croissant with ham. There are four filling options to choose from each bread option to cater to the savoury taste buds.
A country feel cafe with wooden fixtures creates the casual atmosphere that is warm and inviting. The staff are super friendly and the service is prompt. A must try when in Bali, even for those who aren’t looking necessarily for a healthy meal. Reasonably priced and good value we certainly walked out feeling full and satisfied after our dining experience. Definitely on our list of places to visit again so we can try the lunch or dinner menu with a beverage or three!

Souq cafe
Sometimes in life the best things aren’t planned; and stumbling across Souq Cafe was one of these occasions. 4 Travel Buddies left our resort compound to explore the surrounds of Seminyak and the rest is history as they say. Located at the top end of Jl. Raya Basangkasa and a short stroll along Jl. Mertanadi before heading into Seminyak’s Eat Street, Souq Cafe combines two of our favourite past times; shopping and eating all under the one roof.
If you are wanting good clean food and refreshing drinks, then look no further than Souq Cafe. Popping up all over Bali, this free-range cafe is the essences of sustainability sourcing organic produce from local farmers. Also a stylish lifestyle store with unique pieces from all over the globe, you are bound to find a treasured gift to remind you of your Bali shopping adventures.
Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 11:30am and lunch from 11:30am – 3:00pm daily. Spoilt for choices you will want to try all the drinks options including Cold-Pressed Juices, Frappes, Smoothies, Iced Drinks, Fresh Juices, Souq Sangria, coffee made with Toby’s Estate Coffee beans, teas and bottled drinks. We ordered from the lunch menu and enjoyed a salad, sausage rolls, bagel and toasted sandwich.

The Ottoman salad had big flavours with a mix of organic spiced roast chicken, roasted beetroot, onions and tomatoes, ruccola and sugar-snap peas paired with a tarragon and yoghurt dressing. There was no skimping on the roast chicken, the dressing was a healthy light refreshing option and complimented nicely with the roast vegetables.
The Potted Salmon Bagel was a hit with the home-potted salmon, tarragon cream cheese, organic cucumber, fennel, lemon in a Monsignor Spoon bagel. The pate like salmon had a little hint of spice and when mixed with the fresh flavours from the fennel, cucumber and lemon it was a perfect accompaniment with the boutique French Bakery bagel.
You may think you can’t go wrong with a Ham, Cheese and Tomato toasted sandwich, but when it’s cooked well and the cheese oozing out the side as you take a bite you know it is cooked right and the morish sausage rolls were bang on for flavour and that perfect flaky buttery golden brown pastry was amaze balls.
Healthy options and quality food don’t come cheap, so expect to pay a little more for your meals here. Who wouldn’t be happy to pay a little more when you know you are receiving fresh produce? Simple fresh food served with love you will want to visit again to try other dishes from the menu.
Souq Cafe is already on our itinerary for our next trip. Can’t wait to try the breakfast menu, enjoy the friendly service and super quick table service.

There are loads of restaurants along the west coast of Bali with great advantage points to watch the sunset. La Laguna is no exception with a picturesque view on dusk and great advantage points around the property to enjoy watching another day set over Bali.
You are transported back to a different era strolling past several colourful vintage gypsy wagons along the way before you reach the restaurant and bar. The restaurant has an amazing ambience with antiques and crammed treasures decorating every wall and oversize furniture unleashing your inner bohemian or wild gypsy soul. You'd seriously be forgiven for thinking you are actually in Bali. The decor is part boho, vintage but still has touches of Balinese influences with over size cushions, odd mixed furniture pieces and amazing night lighting.
Situated back from the beach with clear unobstructed views of the sunset, La Laguna offers intimate and quirky setting with a huge variety of indoor and outdoor seating areas for couples or large groups around the property. The wooden bridge connects the lagoon to Berawa Beach and is a popular spot for selfie photos with the stunning backdrop.
La Laguna has a well stocked bar with the usual signature, champagne and contemporary classic cocktails but here you will also find frozen cocktails which are a welcome refreshment. Beers, fresh juices, smoothies, milkshakes, mocktails & healthy mixes, soft drinks, tea and coffee offer up a variety of choices to keep you hydrated.
Like a majority of sunset locations you aren’t there to experience fine dining. La Laguna's menu is small with not a lot of variety and is a little on the pricey side. On the evening we dined at La Laguna we tried two pork dishes including Croquetas filled with pork black pudding; an acquired taste and not to our liking, and the pork style Meatballs seasoned with cumin & mixed herbs were a hit and seasoned beautifully. We also ordered the Calamari Ala Romana and as the name suggests it was calamari served with garlic aioli and lemon wedges and Chicken Crunch with baby romaine mixed with gouds, cheese & avocado, topped with chicken breast and bacon with a honey mustard dressing. Plenty of chicken pieces in this dish and they didn't skimp on the dressing; thank god because it tasted divine.
The location is hidden off the beaten track and not well signed for taxi drivers. Cars are packed two and three deep on the vacant block and Blue Bird taxi's aren't allowed to park. Your best option is to arrive by a private vehicle where your driver can wait for you, otherwise you have to use the services of local taxi's which will charge twice the amount it did to get to La Laguna.
Well worth the visit to see the property set up and sunset even if you don't want to stay for a bite to eat or a drink.

The best place 4 Travel Buddies has visited thus far to experience dusk and watch the sun setting over the ocean is La Plancha. The view from this advantage point is incredibly beautiful, gorgeous, stunning and one not to be missed.
What makes this place unique is the atmosphere here is fun, vibrant, laid-back vibe in a rustic setting. Situated right on the beach this pub like setting is a little quirky with its mix matched colourful furniture, awesome lighting at night and DJ playing 80s and reggae music.
Be sure to bag a good possie around 4pm if you want to be on the beach to soak up the atmosphere for the next several hours and do some people watching at the same time. While sitting on the colourful sandy beanbags and under the colourful Balinese Tedung's (like an umbrella), you are waited on hand and foot with a beverage in one hand and some grub in the other all whilst enjoying the sand between your toes and listening to the small waves crashing on the beach.
The bar is fully stocked and loaded to make signature, contemporary classic and sparkling cocktails, pour a spirit, liquer, beer, soft drink, tea & coffee, fresh juice, mocktails and health mix drinks. You won't go thirsty here! The food menu is small, but you aren’t here for the dining experience, you are here to enjoy a Bintang while watching the sunset. The menu includes tapas, sandwiches & burgers, salads, main course are grilled meats and seafood and slim pickings for dessert.
From the tapas menu we ordered Calamares A La Andaluza deep fried squid with Thai sauce, Croquetas De Pollo chicken croquettes and Pollo A La Plancha grilled chicken. The squid had a lovely deep fried crumb but was very chewy and the grilled chicken lacked flavour. But oh WOW, those Spanish chicken croquettes were to die for. The crispy, crunchy golden brown breadcrumb and delicious creamy inside made these two-bite snacks super hard to share.
Can't wait to come back next time and try the breakfast menu and experience La Plancha in a different setting where the colourful sandy bean bags and Tedung's are packed away and you get to enjoy the sea breeze and atmosphere as a new day dawns.

Perched on the edge of Seminyak Beach, La Lucciola is an institution in Bali. The open thatch-roofed restaurant has two dining levels and is another beachfront location for watching the sun set over Bali. The big palm trees light up at night by spotlights adding that calming beach vibe.
By Bali standards La Lucciola is a little on the posh side and standards are high with waiters dressed in traditional Balinese sarongs. The Italian menu is small and simple with a creative flare describing the dishes.
We tried the special of the day Pan Seared Duck Breast with timbalo of caramelised pear, beetroot and vincotto. An elegant and eye catching dish with thin slices of duck forming a small pyramid was both tender and moist. You can't go to an Italian restaurant and not order a pasta dish and we weren't disappointed with the Hand Cut Pappardelle of shredded Waguy Beef Osso Bucco, roma tomatoes and gremolata. The pasta was al dente and the gremolata with a mix of grated lemon zest, parsley and garlic added the finishing touch to this perfect dish. The Roast Organic Chicken Breast was moist and delicious with great flavours but looked average on the plate. Our final dish of the evening was the Hand Rolled Potato Gnocchi which was authentic, light-as-a-feather and straight from Italy it that was good. The plump pillowy texture mixed with pancetta, red onion jam and pecorino romano added the boldness to this amazing dish.
Sadly we left feeling very underwhelmed by the whole experience. 4 Travel Buddies were seated upstairs and our table towards the back of the restaurant. The ambiance was blah with dim lighting requiring our mobiles for a source of light to read the menus and requiring the menus to fan us as it was extremely hot upstairs. It was a still night with no breeze and nowhere near enough fans to circulate the air through the building.
Service was a little slow and we had to keep asking for our water glass to be refilled.
We highly recommend you book a table for dinner service as it is a popular location to watch the sunset. Although we weren't wowed by our dining experience we will return to try the breakfast or lunch menu in the near furture.

4 Travel Buddies love dining at Sisterfields and on our last trip to Bali we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to indulge in brekky again. Brekky is served from 7am – 3pm, and be prepared to wait for a table as it gets very busy mid morning. Unfortunately you can't reserve a table, but usually you don't have to wait too long for a table (maybe 20 minutes). Sisterfields has seating on the deck out front, ample seating inside and a decent size courtyard out back with fans to provide a little relief from the hot sun and humidity.
This trendy and modern cafe is well known to many tourists around the world, and it's a blogger paradise to review the food and take amazing pictures of the drinks and creativity flare of some of the dishes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the service is fast and excellent. Staff aim to please with their prompt serve and delivering water bottles to the table upon you being seated.
Sisterfields has an extensive arrange of drinks including the usual suspects along with a great range of mixed juices and 'smooth operators' for the healthy nut! Their juices and smoothies are packed full of goodness and a great way to kick start your day if you aren't a coffee fan like one of the 4TBs. We indulged in..
The Acai Berry Bowl which was packed full of goodness with blended frozen blueberry, banana, almond milk, cocoa nib & goji berry granola and coffee honey. Everything about this brekky meal screamed scrumptious with the crunch of the granola clusters and superfood of the other healthy ingredients. Not only for the health conscious this brekky is a nice change if you are looking for something different and it's not as heavy as a cooked brekky.
You can’t go past ordering the Pancakes with rhubarb & strawberry compote, vanilla bean ice-cream and maple syrup. These perfectly round pancakes are not to be missed. We like to think of ourselves as pancake connoisseurs and these are up there with the best of the best. Light and fluffy the pancakes go hand-in-hand with the rich and creamy vanilla bean ice-cream.
Hands up who doesn’t like Brioche bread... we challenge you to try the Brioche French Toast; its sure to win you over with spiced apple, dulce de leche, walnuts and fermented apple sorbet. The richness and buttery Brioche bread is balanced with the spice of the apple and sorbet, the crunch of the walnuts and topped off with the spreadable golden caramel dulce de leche turns this brekky dish almost into a luxurious dessert.
Sisterfield Big Breakfast has a lovely selection of eggs, bacon sautéed mushrooms, roasted heirloom tomatoes, spinach on toasted sourdough. As a ‘big breakfast’ this dish did lack in ‘big breakfast’ standards; the plate wasn’t jammed packed and you could see a lot of the plate looking lonely.
We have already ear marked we will have to stop by for lunch (available all day!) and try an alcoholic beverage on our next trip to Bali. Might see you there!

You get what you pay for and with Jamie Oliver's franchise landing in Indonesia, it's nice to know that the pasta is made fresh daily and fresh ingredients are used in the Italian.
Jamie's Italian has plenty of seating, but it's always good to book to secure your table. With seating outdoors, inside around the main bar and upstairs you are spoilt for choice with each section creating a different atmosphere.
We ordered our favourite dish from our last visit; the Lamb Chops Scottadito and it was as good as we remembered it. Scottadito is an Italian word meaning 'burn your fingers' and the good old Scottadito lamb chop lived up to its name sake as tucked into the chops with our fingers. Who needs cutlery right when you all you want to do is bite into a juicy tender lamb chop. We just couldn't wait for the chops to cool before tucking into them.
Our pasta dish for the night was the Porcini Fettuccine with wild mushrooms, mascarpone, garlic, white wine, lemony gremolata, parmesan and crunchy breadcrumbs on the side lacked punch. This dish was very filling, so we suggest you don't order it if you are looking for a light pasta dish; even shared amongst 4TBs we couldn't eat it all.
Another well known dish in Italy, Chicken Al Mattone is 'chicken grilled under a brick'. Marinated and cooked in a creamy wild mushroom sauce with lemony rocket & parmesan, this dish was ultra creamy and rich in flavour. The delicate flavour and texture of the wild mushroom made for a perfect match with the cream sauce.
You can't go past ordering the Funky Chips. These chips are infused with fresh garlic and parsley and didn't last long in the little bucket they were presented in. Fried chips never tasted so good.

Our bubbly host Lovely, ordered us the Cured Meats. If you are a antipasti lover, you must order the Cured Meats served on a plank. You will not be disappointed with Prosciutto di Parma, fennel & garlic salami, mortadella and bresaola with bocconcini all making an appearance on the plank. The plank is a serious piece of carved wood larger than a wooden board by miles and added a real rustic feel and enhanced the presentation giving it a 'WOW' factor when delivered to our table. Providing little tastes of Cured Meats the plank was placed in the middle of the table on tin cans providing easy access to share.
4TBs couldn't go past ordering the Epic Brownie warm fudge brownie with amaretto ice-cream & caramelised popcorn. The chewy fudge brownie wasn't too dense and had the right chocolate flavour without being too rich and top heavy. If you enjoy popcorn you will love the caramelised popcorn and won't want to share with your dining partners.
Last dish on the table was the Passionfruit sorbet, salted caramel & hazelnut ice-cream with honeycomb crunch. The sorbet lacked the sweetness we thought it would've had, but the ice-cream made up for it with the salty flavour of the caramel and the hazelnut was creamy and reminded us of our one true love; Nutella! The Honeycomb was crunch and not chewy was a perfect choice as our topping.
Thank you to Sarah, Lovely and the Jamie's Italian team at Bali for inviting 4TBs to sample scrumptious dishes and warm hospitality.

You haven’t tried a ‘real’ burger until you have experienced a Boss Man burger, and you need to know the all the facts before you say a burger is a burger. All Boss Man burgers are served on a mixed sesame seed bun with the meat being the key ingredient to make these burgers stand out from the rest of the pack.
Boss Man has a burger for every taste bud including beef, lamb and pork burgers and not to forget veggie burgers for those who aren't meat lovers. Boss Man’s beef is 60 day dry-aged chuck steak shaped into patties in-house daily, the pork is cooked low & slow over 18 hours and the lamb is cooked for 36 hours while all their sauces are homemade.
4TBs tried the Original Gangster and Al Capone Beef Burger’s.
The Gangster had perfectly melted American cheddar, fresh iceberg lettuce and heirloom tomatoes, grilled onion, pickles, American mustard, thousand island & a horseradish ailoi. The combination sounds wicked, but let it be known that once you take your first bite, you will not be happy until it is all gone. It's that damn good.
The Al Capone was jam packed with bacon, grilled onion, smoked cheddar, creole chutney, bone marrow emulsion and house smoked BBQ sauce. Seriously this burger has it all with the creativity of the flavours all exploding in your mouth. Words just can't describe how delicious this burger is; we want one now....
The other burgers on the menu include the Notorious P.I.G 18 hour pork belly, Kim ‘Chi’ Un Korean fried chicken, Adonis 36 hour lamb shoulder with grilled saganaki cheese, The Gandhi burger with a patty of edamame, quinoa & sunflower seed and the ultimate is the Bo$$ Burger the Duck Duck Goose. Yes these burgers are a little on the expensive side by Bali standards, but seriously you will not be disappointed and we even place bets that you will make a couple of trips here during your stay.
A great accompaniment to a burger is fries and Boss Man delivers; would you expect anything less. Fries here are done four different ways! Yes you heard right, Boss Man aims to please everyone.
French fries with Bo$$ seasoning, Polenta fries with comfit garlic aioli, Truffle, Poreini & parmesan fries with truffle ailoi and Loaded Fries with pulled pork, jolopolio grilled queo blanco, coriander and chipotle mayo. 4TBs tried the Truffle, Poreini & parmesan fries; lets just say there many have been a fight for the last chip in the bucket. They were crispy, had a generous serving of grated parmesan cheese and salted to perfection. Talk about being in French fry heaven. Take us back now...
Boss Man 'means business', opening 17 hours every day. Yes you heard right from 11:00am till the wee hours of 4:00am Boss Man are flipping patties and constructing your burger to satisfy your hunger cravings. The bonus is if you aren't out and about in the early hours and walking home from the bar or club, you can dial Boss Man and they will deliver to your Resort or Villa!
Depending on what time of the day you go, don't be surprised if you have to line up to order a burger and fries. We can tell you though, that it will be worth your wait and your tummy will thank you later.
We dare you to try one and tell us it was just another burger.

Feeling peckish after a spot of shopping at Beachwalk Shopping Centre, Kuta or swimming at Kuta Beach? Well there is no better place to satisfy your hunger than popping into Tony Roma's Bali. With friendly service and quality food both of exceptional standards, 4TBs can recommend Tony Roma's Bali to meet your food contentment. Staff were attentive and friendly from the initial welcome till the time we left.
Our host Srie ordered 4TBs Tony Roma's Bali their 3 top selling dishes, and we weren't disappointed.
The Original Baby Back Ribs were suckling, tender lean loin pork ribs basted with Tony Roma's (TRs) Original BBQ sauce. The only way to eat these ribs is with your fingers. The finger licking, lip smacking and yumlicious glazed rack coated in sticky smokey BBQ sauce (imported from the United States) makes for dining etiquette fun! The full rack of ribs came served with our favourite side of mashed potato with a twist. Definitely a hard dish to share when the ribs were so damn good.

The Onion Loaf is lightly coated onion rings dipped in bread crumbs and deep fried to look like a giant hand-cut onion served with TRs Original BBQ sauce in the middle of the onion. A crowd-pleasing appetizer we were pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted.
Steakhouse Burger was a grilled pure beef burger topped with Cabernet demi glace, creamy white cheddar cheese and rosemary bacon. 4TBs have tried a lot of burgers from around the world, and this burger didn't disappoint but certainly wasn't the standout dish for us.
The creamy New York Cheesecake was so damn good. Not too rich, this light fluffy cheesecake was topped with strawberry sauce. A piece of utter indulgence and enjoyed by all and a nice way to end our dining experience at Tony Roma's Bali.
We finished with Hand-shaken Watermelon Romaritas made with Tequila, Cointreau liqueur, fresh watermelon and grenadine. We also ordered refreshing Pomegranate Lemonade, Mango Lemonade and a Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri.
Thank you to Srie and the team at Tony Roma's for inviting 4TBs to sample amazing dishes.

Brickhouse speciality espresso
Shopping along Jl. Raya Basangkasa we stumbled across Brickhouse Speciality Espresso. And boy were we glad we did!
Only a couple of months old, Brickhouse Speciality Espresso has great coffee, freshly made juices and lots more cold drinks on offer. It is also air conditioned which is always good when taking a break from the Bali heat.
On our first visit to Brickhouse it was Club Sandwiches all round! Advertised on the board outside is their $10k waffle with ice cream. This was an offer we could not pass up. We also decided to give the pizza a try.
All of our food was so good that we actually rearranged some of our plans and made a return visit the day before we left Bali.
Once again the Club Sandwich was ordered along with the waffle special which tells you they are both a must when eating at Brickhouse.
We also ordered the Brickhouse special sandwich, the Spaghetti Bolognaises and the Nutty Banana Smoothie bowl. None of the dishes disappointed.
There are plenty of options on the menu catering for breakfast lunch and dinner.
The kitchen is in full view of all patrons and diners can see their food being made fresh. The décor stays true to its name and is a refurbished brickhouse. The interior is comfortable with couches and a great share table.
We finished off our second visit with two of the signature desserts, the Cheesecake and Chocolate Cake. Making this one of 4 Travel Buddies great finds on our last trip to Bali.

Buffet breakfast at Courtyard by Marriott was impressive with a large variety of breakfast options and is in our top 3 of best hotel/resort buffet breakfasts.
Hot foods include Western, Indian, Indonesian, Asian and a station with a Chef making egg omelettes to your liking and a wide range of ingredients to choose from . You could fill your plate with bagels, a great pastry selection of croissants, muffins, Danishes and doughnuts, pikelets, waffles and bread varieties with an array of condiments including Nutella! Petite Eggs Benedict pre made were a winner on our table and we certainly didn't mind waiting for a batch. The poached eggs were perfect; semi runny-yoked egg in a neat teardrop shape with Hollandaise sauce on a muffin topped with bacon.
Super impressed with the fruits, juices, milks and deli meats in a fridge and not sitting on ice. Keeping these perishable items at a cool temperature is purer genius and is the first hotel/resort we have seen this at. A wide range of juices included orange, mango, guava, tomato, pineapple and apple. Milk options included full-cream, light and soy and flavoured water jugs with lemon or apple.
A good buffet includes a good selection of menu items for the health conscious and Courtyard by Marriott ticked this box. On offer was two different mueslis; one with clusters of oats and cashews and the other chocolate muesli with dried banana. A great selection of health choices of yoghurts, fruit compote and you can't go past the breakfast superfood; bircher muesli.
Staff were very friendly and service was bang on. On the day we dined at the restaurant it was busy, but staff were super efficient with tables cleared promptly and offering table service for hot and cold drinks. A good coffee is hard to find in Bali; in the eyes of 3TBs the coffee was a good brew here and they would happily come back just to have a coffee!
Unfortunately we only got to try the buffet one day. It would've be interesting to see if Courtyard by Marriott mixes up the dishes on a daily basis so you don't get bored. Our only disappointment was not seeing a sweet roll or dim sim on the day we dined at Seminyak Kitchen.

Cascade Lounge
The Mulia, Nusa Dua, Bali
The Mulia, High Tea was delightful to attend. It is located in The Cascade Lounge located on the top deck of the resort overlooking the grounds with a magnificent beach view.
A three tiered high tea, was the perfect treat before we departed to the airport on our final day in Bali.
The first tier held a selection of sweets
The third and final tier was a selection of two scones with the perfect flavored strawberry jam and freshly whipped cream. And finally there was a filled profiterole roll with custard and white chocolate and strawberry icing.
Overall this high tea was one of our favorite high teas. The selection was delightful and I cannot wait to come back and have another high tea at The Mulia.

High Tea at w hotel
Jalan Petitengent, Kerobokan,Seminyak Bali
From the second you step into the W Hotel you enter into a colourful world of Alice In Wonderland. We sure did love the colors of the wonderland high tea but not all 4 Travel Buddies loved the taste.
A three-tiered birdcage held our high tea, on the top level we tasted a caramel and peanut butter slice, an egg shell filled with custard and fruit and the final piece of cake was a refrigerated slice with jam, jelly, biscuit covered in a green paste. This particular slice was a recipe for disaster. The ingredients did not compliment each other leaving you with a horrible aftertaste.
Level two included a chicken sandwhich with black bread, which was expetionaly dry, cucumber, tomoato, lettuce and of course the chicken that was ice cold. The samosas were average, so were the vegetable pinwheels. The last savoury treat was dry chewy bready which was filled with a salmon puree. Level two sent this tea party slipping into a hole of disaster.
The bottom level included a pink macaroon with a raspberry center. The macaroon had a very moist consistency instead of a light fluffy one and the crunch was missing. The marshmallows filled with a square of disaster and the dry scones with a sour jam turned this Mad Hatter, into a Bad Hatter. The final cake was a lamington with a green and pink outer layer and on the inside was filled with green cake.
The Service was excellent throughout and we could not fault the fabulous waiters. The visual fantasy of the mix match of sugared flavours sent shock waves through your throat. It was more about making the food itself colourful than what tasted nice.
After eating this High Tea the chesire cat was not smiling.

brunch at the mulia
Jl. Raya Nusa Dua Selatan, Kawasan Sawangan, Nusa Dua, Bali
After investigating the best Sunday brunch options in Bali and there are many on this beautiful island, a friend recommended The Mulia in Nusa Dua was a “must”! We booked well in advance to ensure that we did not miss out.
From the moment we entered the front gates and saw the giant sculptured roses we knew we had stumbled across something very special.
As we walked through the white marbled foyer past reception onto the balcony we were greeted by the most magnificent view. The balcony over looked one of the many pools on the property and as we gazed further out we could see another pool and the ocean behind it.
We were directed down toward the Soleil Café where Brunch is served from 11am to 3pm every Sunday. Apon entering the Soleil we were seated by our friendly waiter who straight away brought us our non-alcoholic cocktails. Our waiter straight away picked up where we were from and provided us with lots of football jokes.
You have the option of having the buffet with free flow alcohol for $79(USD) or non alcoholic for $59(USD). Included in this price is that you can order anything off the menu. Unfortunately we did not pick up on this and missed out on ordering from the menu.
Part of the Mulia Brunch charm is the signature dishes that are brought to your table compliments of the Chef. We were treated to the pate with brioche toasted fingers, as well as pasta with crab meat.
There are so many highlights of this brunch it is hard to pick just one. The pork crackling cooked to perfection, the sushi and fresh prawns or the lamb cutlets cooked to your liking. Not to mention the vast options on the dessert buffet.
Our suggestion is to make sure you pace yourself and make the most of the 4 hours you have. We certainly did!
We left the Soleil Café with a plan to return to The Mulia and enjoy all that is has to offer.
And if there was any hesitation of returning (which there really was none from us), we entered the Deli on our way out of the resort. The amazing variety of cakes, desserts and pastries on offer was mind blowing! The staff were helpful and advised us that all items are baked fresh everyday. We left the Mulia wanting to stay longer.
When we returned home from Bali we booked straight away for 6 nights at the Mulia through Bali Tours. We are counting down the days until we return to the Magnificent Mulia in July 2015!

Biku
Jalan Petitenget, No.888, Seminyak Kerobokan, Kuta, Bali 8036
One of our top 4 highlights of my last trip to Bali has to be Biku. We could not believe that we had not been to this fabulous tea house on our previous visits to this beautiful island.
After just leaving Potato Head Beach Club and not seeing what all the hype was about, Biku was just what was needed to fall back in love with Bali.
From the moment we entered the front door we knew we were in for something special. The décor took you back to a different era and the menu reflected this as well.
We had booked well in advance for our table of 8 and we received an email the day before reconfirming our booking. We were seated by our waitress and the table seating was absolutely gorgeous with cloth napkins and fine china.
Everywhere you go in Bali you are given cold refreshing towels before a meal. Biku had a lovely twist on the towels. Our waitress placed a wooden box with tiny towels and a carved out compartment with cold scented water in it. You placed the small dry cloth into the liquid and the towel expanded.
The menu at Biku is large and varied. There is wide selection of salads, pies, burgers, curries, sandwiches and a selection of Indonesian dishes along with entrée options and main meals.
The drinks menu is just as large with every possible variety of hot and cold teas, an extensive cocktails list, milkshakes, fresh juices, health drinks and all varieties of coffees.
It was a unanimous decision at our table to order the high tea. This is a traditional high tea comprising of scones with jam and cream, finger sandwiches (cucumber, salmon & cream cheese, ham and mustard) and mini spinach quiches..
There was also a selection of sweet treats including a melt in your mouth mini chocolate cake. All of this accompanied with your choice of Biku tea. This is where the decisions became difficult as there are 5 pages of teas to chose from! Some of us did stick to the traditional English breakfast and earl grey but the adventurous ones on our table chose the red berries tea and the Biku cooler.
We left Biku feeling uplifted and our faith restored in what great places Bali has on offer. Our next trip to Bali is in July and Biku is on our list of places we must return to a there is so much more on the menu to experience.
