Agatha's food store
1 Gawler Street, Port Noarlunga, South Australia, Australia
A casual atmosphere and open air dining, Agatha's at Port Noarlunga has a rustic charm ambience like no other. Located on the South Coast, a popular location for locals and those tourists lucky enough to stumble upon Agatha's will leave feeling full and satisfied without a doubt.
Currently offering breakfast and lunch seven days a week, Agatha's cuisine has an international flare with tapas and burgers also featuring on the menu. Offering gluten free and vegetarian options there's something for everyone. Reopening after recent renovations, Agatha's will open all year round and start trading a couple of nights a week.
Enticed by the tapas menu we selected five mind blowing dishes. The little bites packed big flavours with a punch.
First dish to arrive was the Grilled Haloumi drizzled with fresh lemon, balsamic and dukkah. The dukkah added the crunch and spiciness to this super healthy dish! The golden crispy exterior, soft inside and addictive saltiness of the Haloumi was oh so tasty with all the flavours going well together.
OMG the Moroccan Seasoned Coconut Crusted Prawns with coriander and mango salsa was out of this world. The lightly coated prawn in a spicy crumb and salsa added a Summer feel to eating a light dish on a warm Summer's night. The only down fall was the Chef teasing us with a small sampling of the salsa. More salsa please!
The Lemon Myrtle Squid was coated in a chilli, lime and coriander glaze. A popular Australia's native herb, the Lemon Myrtle complemented the squid which was cooked to perfection; its wasn't rubbery or chewy.
We had to try the Vegetable Arancini Balls as we had never had a vegetable one before. The rich romesco sauce accompanying the balls was very strong in flavour and the thick purée texture was overpowering. The balls were super crisp and flavourful whilst the root vegetables added substance to the rice, however the centre wasn't oozy.
Rounding out our tapas experience we indulged in the New Orleans Fried Chicken Tenderloins. The Pepsi and Jack Daniels glaze had a real bite to it and we found the dominant whisky flavour overpowering and harsh; thankfully the condiment was on the side of the dish for dipping.
If you are in the area, pop in as you won't be disappointed with the tapas food or friendly service. 4TBs will definitely be back to try the burgers; they look delicious.
Our top tip to avoid disappointment is to book ahead. Thank you to the owner Dave for taking time out of a busy service to chat to us.
